On The Edge Racing are a Classic Sidecar racing team based in Birley Edge, Sheffield.
The bike we have been racing in the 2009 season is a Lynx Imp.
Briefly, this is a classic eligible, but newly built Lynx chassis fitted with a race tuned Hillman Imp engine.
The chassis is a replica of a Classic Period sidecar outfit. It features the following:
Leading-link forks
5 Twin-piston Lockheed Racing brake calipers
10" X 5" Cast alloy wheels fitted with Yokohama race tyres
No suspension on either rear or sidecar wheels
The engine has had the capacity increased to 998cc and is fitted with the following parts to improve performance and reliability:
Balanced and lightened crankshaft
Lightened and polished connecting rods
Cosworth big end bolts (increased diameter)
1/4" Steel block strengthener
Extended and baffled sump
Forged race pistons
Full race (R23) camshaft
Vernier camshaft sprocket
Ported and skimmed cylinder head, fitted with "Wills" rings
Oversized Valves with competition valve springs and collets
2 Weber DCOE 40 carburettors
High capacity oil pump
The transmission of the outfit differs from most similar machines in the class, as it has no "Pearson" drive, instead it uses a Hemmings belt drive and hydraulic clutch
to drive the Norton gearbox that is fitted with Quaife close-ratio 4-speed internals.
The entire machine is currently being rebuilt by the team, in preparation for the 2010 race season.
We will post updates of the rebuild on a regular basis.
In 2009 the team finished 8th overall, and best placed novices in the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club (CRMC) Championship, in the Period 3 Sidecar class.
Our team mates Andy Rayner, Loraine Bown and Chris Adams finished 3rd overall, and best novices in the Period 2 championship.
In 2010, the team will again be competing in the CRMC championship, as well as selected other races in both the UK and Europe.
